Welcome to the Biesheim pump track

A pump track in the heart of a unique cycling spot, thanks to the support of the European Union!

For safe and enjoyable use, please observe the following rules:

  • The pump track is intended for sports and leisure activities involving BMX bikes, skates, skateboards and scooters.
  • Sports activities involve the risk of falls and collisions.
  • Children under the age of 10 must be supervised by an adult.
  • Helmets must be worn.
  • Personal protective equipment is strongly recommended: knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, back protectors and closed shoes.
  • Respect the difficulty levels and maintain a distance of 20 metres between users.
  • Respect the markings on the ground and the direction of traffic.
  • Rain, leaves and frost greatly reduce grip: adjust your speed and braking accordingly.
  • Use equipment that is in good working order.
  • Check that the track is free of debris before setting off.
  • Do a first lap at moderate speed to familiarise yourself with the track.
  • Adapt your practice to other users and share the space.
  • The starting platform is not a waiting area. Accompanying people must stand 2 metres away from the track.
  • Never practise alone.
  • Motorised vehicles are prohibited.
  • Use at night is prohibited.

The municipality of Biesheim wanted to offer its residents a unique sports facility that was both modern and in harmony with nature. This led to the creation of the pump track project, a space dedicated to fans of board sports, nestled in the heart of a green environment. The location chosen for this facility was no accident. Situated in the heart of nature, on a former brownfield site that has been renatured, close to the Giessen River and easily accessible, it is an ideal spot for cyclists and bike riders on the Euro Vélo15 cycle route, which connects Biesheim to Kunheim and Neuf-Brisach.

A Sport’Rhena project

Originally conceived by the Biesheim Children’s Municipal Council, this pump track is the result of a broader vision, carried out on a cross-border scale, through the Sport’Rhena project, which brings together several partners with complementary expertise, such as:

  • The town of Breisach am Rhein
  • The town of Biesheim, which has been an important partner in Franco-German cross-border cooperation for many years due to its location on the banks of the Rhine
  • The Badischer Sportbund association, a key player in sport in Baden
  • The Alsace Rhin Brisach Community of Communes
  • The Eurodistrict Region Freiburg – Centre and South Alsace
  • The European Community of Alsace (CeA), which has been coordinating cross-border cooperation in the Upper Rhine region on the Alsatian side since 2021.

The Sport’Rhena project is an ambitious initiative supported by Interreg that aims to promote health, cohesion and sport for all by creating accessible, attractive and interconnected infrastructure.

Thanks to this programme, the Biesheim pump track is now one of Sport’Rhena’s concrete achievements, alongside other innovative developments, such as:

  • A climbing wall;
  • A street basketball module;
  • A skatepark;
  • A calisthenics mobility course (combining gymnastics and weight training)
  • Interactive play modules.

Two tracks for riders

This 1,000 m² space includes two tracks: an 80-metre loop ideal for beginners, and a more technical 200-metre circuit for more experienced riders. It was designed by two design offices, Connexion Sport Urbain and Philippe Buisson Paysage, which specialise in this type of sports facility, landscaped and integrated into the environment. Trees and plants have been planted, and play and picnic areas have been created. The project was entrusted to Arkedia, a company renowned for its expertise in high-quality outdoor facilities, combining technical skills and attention to detail.

This project represented an investment of around €350,000, co-financed by the Interreg Rhin Supérieur Oberrhein programme and supported by the European Community of Alsace.

This equipment was co-financed to the tune of €102,750 by:

SPORT’RHENA: a project promoting community living

The aim of Sport’Rhena is to offer the population new opportunities for leisure and socialising. Through sport, residents will be able to get together, practise together and break down language barriers. To achieve this, Sport’Rhena focuses on two areas:

  • the creation of new, trendy sports facilities, such as the pump track in Biesheim, but also, on both sides of the Rhine, a street basketball court, a skatepark, a climbing wall, play modules and a calisthenics mobility course

and

  • a digital platform that will eventually list all existing sports facilities in the area, improve their accessibility (including for people with disabilities), and publish announcements and sporting events.
